Our yard is located right on N. H. 8, very close to the bus stand in Morchana. It’s a spot where you see a lot of people coming and going all the time. Being near the highway means the dust never really settles, and we are always seeing the long-distance buses pull over nearby. We deal with both granite and marble here, so the yard is a mix of different colors and textures. It can get pretty hectic when a big delivery comes in right as a bus is letting people off, but we manage to get by. We don't have any big corporate speeches to give; we just show up every morning and get to work moving the slabs. The guys who work here are local, and we all know the rhythm of the highway. Some days are just spent organizing the stacks so that the newest granite is easy to reach. We use a lot of water to keep the stones clean so the natural patterns show through the road grime. It’s a practical business in a very public spot. We mostly just talk to the contractors and homeowners who stop by while they are traveling through Morchana. It’s a lot of physical labor, but we are used to it by now. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the trucks are loaded properly before they head back out on the N.H. 8. That is our daily life here.
