Saraswati Marble & Granite is based right along N. H. 8 in Pasoond. This whole area is known for stone, so we fit right in with the rest of the businesses. We have a fair amount of space here to keep our stock. Most of what we do is just managing the slabs that come in from the quarries. Granite and marble are heavy things to move around, so we spend a lot of time with the cranes and loaders making sure everything is safe. It’s a noisy environment, especially when the cutting machines are going nearby at other yards. We’ve been in Pasoond for quite some time now. The workers here have been with us for years. We all know the routine and what needs to be done. In the morning, we open up and check what orders need to be loaded onto the trucks. Then it’s just a matter of showing visitors around the yard. We don’t have a fancy showroom with lights. The stone looks better under the natural light anyway. You can see the real colors and patterns that way. Some days the highway is jammed with trucks, and that makes things a bit slow for us because no one can pull in. We just sit in the small office and wait for the traffic to clear. It’s a simple business model. We buy stone, we store it, and we sell it. There isn't much more to it than that. We try to stay organized, but a stone yard has its own kind of clutter.
