Out here in Badarda, things are a bit different than the main highway spots. It’s a little quieter, though we still deal with plenty of trucks coming in and out of the yard. We handle a lot of stone, and my boots are always white from the marble dust that covers everything. Our setup is pretty basic. We have the slabs lined up, and we spend our time checking the quality and making sure nothing gets chipped. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting and shifting pieces that weigh way more than a person should be moving. We don't put on any acts here. If a piece of marble has a flaw, we see it, and we just tell people about it. It’s about being practical. The days start early when it’s still cool enough to work hard without getting too tired. By the afternoon, the heat reflects off the stone and it gets pretty intense. We usually just have some water and keep going until the sun goes down. Most of the people who come to see us are looking for something specific, and we just walk them through the rows of stone until they see what they like. It’s a straightforward business, really. No fancy decorations, just a lot of rock and the equipment we use to move it. We’ve been doing this for years, and even though the work is hard on the body, there's a certain satisfaction in seeing the heavy stacks all lined up properly.
