Rajasthali Marbles

Our place is out on N.H.8 in Pasoond. Being on the highway means we see a lot of traffic. The trucks roar past all night and day. It’s a dry area, so things get dusty fast. We spend a lot of time cleaning off the slabs just so people can see the patterns properly. Rajasthali Marbles is basically a big open space where we keep the blocks and cut pieces. It’s just me and a couple of others most days. We don't have a big reception desk or anything like that. You just walk in and we show you what's on the ground. Pasoond is a good spot for this kind of work. The stone comes in, we move it around with the crane, and then it goes back out on a different truck. It’s honest work. My hands are usually rough from touching the stone. We eat our lunch right here in the small shed. Sometimes the weather gets really hot, and the stone feels like it’s baking. We don't mind. We've been here long enough that the noise of the highway just sounds like background music now. If you're driving down N.H.8, you'll see us. We have the sign up, but the stacks of marble are easier to spot. We just try to keep things moving and stay busy. It's a lot of standing around and waiting for deliveries, then a lot of rushing when the truck arrives. We've got our routine down.
