Mohit Marble

If you have ever been to Kankroli, you know how much stone and marble is around this area. Our place, Mohit Marble, is right in the middle of all that. We spend our days surrounded by big slabs of stone and a lot of white dust that gets on everything. It’s hard work moving these pieces around and you have to be very careful not to crack them. We don’t have a fancy showroom with air conditioning or anything like that. It is mostly just the yard and the small office where we keep the records. Some days the sun is really hot and the stone gets warm to the touch. We get all kinds of people coming in looking for something for their floors or bathrooms. They usually walk around the stacks of marble for a long time trying to decide on the right pattern. We just let them take their time. It’s a local business and we know most of the guys driving the trucks around Kankroli. Sometimes we have tea together when the loading is done. The stone comes from the local quarries and it is heavy stuff to handle manually. We have been doing this for a while now and the daily routine doesn't change much. It is loud when the cutters are going but you get used to it after a week. We just show up, move the marble, and head home when the sun goes down. That is life.
