Avtar Marbles

Our shop, Avtar Marbles, is right on National Highway 1, along the Ambala Road in Patiala district. We are situated near the Mayur Hotel, which is a place most drivers know well. Being on the highway means we see a lot of people passing through. We have our marble and tiles set up so people can see them as they drive by. It is a family-run place, and we have been here for quite a while now. We don't have any corporate structure; it is just us handling the sales and the loading. The trucks bring in the stone from the north and south, and we spend our time sorting through it. It is hard work, especially when it is hot out on the road. We talk to a lot of homeowners who are building their first house and feel a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. We just tell them what we know about how the different stones wear over time. There is no sales pitch here, just showing what is available on the racks. Sometimes the kids are running around the yard while we work. We try to keep the place organized, but with stone, things always end up a bit messy. It is a local life, rooted in the Patiala area, and we like the rhythm of the highway. People stop for tea and end up looking at marble for their new kitchen.
