About Shri K. L. Institute For The Deaf – Education in Rajkot
We are over at Plot No.51 in Vidhyanagar. Shri K. L. Institute For The Deaf is a place where we focus on teaching and helping. It's not a big institution with hundreds of staff. It's more of a community effort. We have a few classrooms and a small outdoor area where the kids can run around during the break. The building is a bit older, and we're always trying to fix a leaky faucet or a squeaky door. It's a lively place, even if it's quiet in the way you might expect. We use a lot of visual aids and posters on the walls to help with the learning. My sister and I started helping out here years ago because we saw there wasn't enough support in Vidhyanagar for families with deaf children. It’s been a learning process for us too. We don't have a massive budget, so we make do with what we have. Sometimes the books are a bit worn out, but the information is still there. We spend a lot of time talking with parents and showing them how to communicate better at home. It’s meaningful work, even on the days when we're feeling tired. The neighborhood is very supportive, and we often have neighbors dropping by to check in or help with repairs. It’s just a simple place doing what needs to be done for the kids. We try our best every day.
