Diwanpara Main Road is where we are located. It’s a very busy street with a lot of character, and Santosh Sarees has been part of this landscape for quite some time now. The noise from the scooters and the occasional cow wandering by in the street is just part of the daily background here. Our shop is narrow but goes back pretty deep. We have racks and racks of sarees, mostly the kinds people wear every day or for small family functions at home. The lighting isn't the best, just a few long tube lights that flicker sometimes when the power is low. We have a big wooden counter where we show the fabric to anyone who comes in. It’s worn smooth from years of cloth being dragged across it. Diwanpara is a place where everyone knows everyone. We spend a good portion of our day just greeting people who walk past the front door. We don't do much in the way of decoration here. The sarees themselves provide all the color the place needs. In the monsoon season, we have to be very careful about the rain splashing in from the road, so we keep the big plastic sheets ready to cover everything up. It’s a simple life on a busy road. We close up when the streetlights come on and the traffic finally starts to thin out a bit. There isn't much to it other than showing up and being part of the Diwanpara community.
