Saraf Bazar is where we are located, specifically in the Old Gandhiwad area. This is a very old part of the city, and the streets are so narrow that you can’t really bring a car anywhere near the door. We have been a part of this market for a very long time. The shop has a specific smell of old wood and the sound of small hammers hitting metal. We still do a lot of our work by hand here. The name on the sign outside has been there for several generations now. It is not one of those modern showrooms with perfect air conditioning. We still have the heavy wooden doors that we lock up every night with big keys. People come to us because they knew our fathers or grandfathers. A lot of the time is spent sitting on the floor on white cushions while looking at different gold pieces with the customers. That is just the traditional way we do things in Saraf Bazar. The market is always crowded with people buying all sorts of things, not just jewelry. We see the same tea boy every hour making his rounds. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use small lights, but we just keep working. We do not have a website or anything like that.
