About Bhagwati Rice Mill – Agriculture & Farming in Raipur
Out here in Kurud, the rice mill keeps us pretty busy. It’s a noisy place once the machines start running in the morning. We take the raw paddy and process it. There is dust everywhere, no matter how much we sweep. It’s just the nature of milling rice. We’ve been doing this at Bhagwati Rice Mill for a good bit of time. The local farmers bring their loads in, and we get to work. Some days the machines break down and we have to spend hours fixing a belt or a motor. It’s frustrating but it happens. We aren't some huge corporation with shiny offices. It’s just us, the grain, and the equipment. We work long hours during the harvest season. Lunch is usually eaten quickly while sitting on a sack of grain. The air smells like toasted husks. We handle different varieties depending on what’s coming in from the fields. It’s hard work on the back, moving those heavy bags around all day. We try to keep things moving so nobody is waiting too long. Kurud is a small enough place where everyone sees what’s going on. We don’t spend money on fancy ads. Most people just know where we are. We just want to get the job done and go home at the end of the day. The floors are worn down from years of walking. It’s a simple life, really. Just milling rice and making sure the quality is okay before it leaves the gate.
