Amar Masala

Amar Masala is tucked away in Building No. Mig3/11 on Mahtab Road. We are very close to the RDA building, which is what most people use as a landmark when they are trying to find us for the first time. The air around our building always has a bit of a bite to it because of all the spices we are grinding. You can smell the turmeric and the dried red chilies from all the way down the street. It makes some people sneeze when they walk in but we are used to it by now. My family has been doing this for years. We have these old grinding machines that make a lot of noise but they still work better than the new ones you see today. The shop part is in the front and the back is where all the bags of whole spices are kept. We spend our afternoons weighing out different powders into small plastic packets and sealing them up. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. Sometimes the Mahtab Road traffic gets a bit much and the noise from the RDA building construction is annoying, but we just turn up the radio and keep on with the mixing. People come by to get their weekly supply and they usually stay for a quick chat about the weather or the local news before they head home.
