Indian Spice House

You can usually smell Indian Spice House before you even see the door at 11/349 in Shivanand Nagar. We are tucked away in Section 3, and the air around here always smells like cumin or chili powder depending on what we are packing that day. It’s a local neighborhood vibe in Khamtarai, so we see a lot of the same faces every week. The space is small and filled with bags of whole spices and grinders. We spend a lot of time cleaning and making sure everything is kept dry. It’s a simple setup. There are a few tables where we weigh things out and put them into smaller bags. Sometimes the dust from the spices makes us sneeze, but you get used to it after a few months. Shivanand Nagar is a quiet area compared to the main city, which makes it easier for us to focus on what we are doing. We don’t use any big machines, mostly just hand tools and old scales that have been here since we started. People from around Shree Nagar come by to get what they need for their cooking. It’s not a fancy shop with bright lights. It’s more of a practical place for people who care about their kitchen. We just keep things moving and try to stay organized in our own way. Every morning starts with opening the shutters and letting the fresh air in to clear the spice dust away.
