We are located out in Mahalunge Ingale, which is a bit of a drive if you’re coming from the city. The address is 148/4/2, right on the 9th Main and 9th Cross in the 2nd Block. It sounds complicated when you say it out loud but once you’re here, it’s easy to spot. The shop is full of metal parts and the floor is usually stained with oil no matter how much we scrub it. There’s always the sound of someone clanking a wrench or a bike engine idling out front. It gets pretty loud, and the air smells like fuel and grease most of the time. We have a small bench where people sit while they wait, but it’s usually covered in rags or spare parts. The sun beats down on the corrugated roof in the summer, making it like an oven inside, so we keep the big doors wide open. We aren’t really tech-savvy or anything, just good with our hands and the tools we’ve had for years. Sometimes a dog from the street comes in to sleep in the shade under the workbench. We don’t mind as long as he stays out of the way. It’s a messy job but somebody has to do it. We stay late most nights trying to finish up the last few bits of work. It’s not a glamorous place by any means, but it’s where we spend most of our lives and we’ve gotten used to the grit.
