Living and working in Karjat has its own pace, and at Rushabh Super Market, we’re right in the middle of it on Amrai Road. Being near the HDFC Bank means there’s always people walking past our doors at Bnt Residency. We open up early to get the milk crates inside and start stacking the shelves before the first rush. It’s a lot of lifting heavy bags of rice and making sure the packets are lined up properly. The shop isn't fancy, but it has everything a kitchen needs. Sometimes the lighting flickers or a stack of biscuits falls over, but we just pick it up and keep going. We know most of the faces that come in. It’s not just about selling a bag of sugar; it’s about asking how someone’s family is doing while we weigh the dal. The aisles can get a bit cramped when we get a new shipment of grains or cleaning supplies, and sometimes the floor stays a bit dusty from all the foot traffic. We don’t use any high-tech systems for everything; a lot of it is just knowing where every single item is kept by memory. In the afternoons, when the heat is bad outside, it gets quiet for a bit, and we use that time to check the stock. It’s just a regular local market where we try to keep the shelves full and the regulars happy.
