St Francis English Medium School

St Francis English Medium School is located out on Dharmastala Road in Kokkada. It is a bit of a drive if you are coming from the main town, but it is a nice area with plenty of trees around us. We have been here for a while, providing a place for local kids to learn in English. The building is fairly simple, with a few different wings for different ages. Rain is a big thing here; when it pours, the sound on the roof is so loud we have to pause the lessons sometimes. We have a small yard where the kids play during the breaks. You usually see a few cows grazing nearby or people walking towards the temple road. The staff here mostly comes from the surrounding villages. We know the parents and the grandparents of many of our students. It is a very local atmosphere. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to open the windows wider to get some light in the classrooms. We keep things pretty straightforward. No big frills or complicated systems, just classrooms and textbooks. The gate is usually open a bit early so the early arrivals can sit on the benches and wait. After the final bell rings, the place clears out fast as everyone heads home to beat the evening traffic on the main road. It is just how life goes for us here in Kokkada.
