Gillanders Arbuthnot & Co Ltd. Unit- Micco. Dumdapahari, Nutangram, Kashipur, Purulia. Out here in Purulia, things move at their own pace. Our Micco unit is located in Dumdapahari, near Nutangram in the Kashipur area. It’s a bit of a journey to get here, surrounded by the dry landscape that this part of West Bengal is known for. The office isn't anything special to look at, just a practical building where we keep the operations running for the company. We have a small group of people from the local villages working with us, so there’s always some talk about the local harvest or the weather. We spend most of our time dealing with the equipment and the technical side of what Micco does. It’s dusty work sometimes, especially when the wind picks up across the open ground. We don’t have the distractions of a big city, which helps us stay on top of the maintenance and the daily logs. Most days are about checking the machinery and making sure the staff has what they need to stay safe and productive. When the lunch break comes, we usually sit together and talk about things other than work. It’s a tight-knit group because there isn't much else around for miles. We take pride in just keeping the wheels turning in this remote spot, making sure the unit stays active and the work gets done despite the challenges of being so far out.
