Emu Pharmacy is our shop on Chakratirtha Road. It’s not one of those giant supermarket-style pharmacies you see in the city. It’s a small, narrow room with wooden shelves lining every wall from the floor all the way to the ceiling. We try to keep as much in stock as we can, but since the space is tight, things can look a little cluttered and disorganized to a stranger. We spend a lot of time checking the dates on the boxes and making sure everything is exactly where it should be. Chakratirtha Road is a place where everyone always seems to be in a big hurry, but we try to take a minute to talk to whoever comes in for help. We don't have a big computer system that tracks everything perfectly; sometimes we have to look through the little drawers to find exactly what someone needs. It’s just us working behind the counter most days. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years, but the shop stays pretty much the same. The old ceiling fans hum all day long to keep the place a bit cool. We don’t have any glossy advertisements or bright signs in the windows. It’s just a place to get your medicine and maybe some soap or bandages when you need them. We know most of the families around here by their names. If we don’t have something, we try to get it in by the next morning if the distributor has it.
