Swissyum

Swissyum is right by the Railway Station in Jamuria. If you are standing on the platform, you can almost hear us. The location is good for business because people are always coming and going from the station. However, it also means it’s never quiet. There is a constant whistle of trains and the sound of people shouting. The Burdwan district gets quite dusty, and being near the tracks doesn’t help with that. I spend a lot of my time wiping down the glass counters. We sell a variety of things, mostly stuff that people want to grab quickly before they catch their train. I’ve been here for about two years now, and I’ve seen all sorts of people pass through. Some are in a huge rush and barely say a word, while others have to wait for an hour for a delayed train and end up telling me their whole life story. I don’t mind it; it makes the day go by faster. The shop is small, so we have to be careful about how we stack the boxes. Sometimes I feel like I am playing a game of Tetris just to fit a new delivery in. My boss stays in the back mostly, dealing with the suppliers, while I handle the front counter. It’s a bit of a hectic life, but at least I am never bored. Sometimes I get to watch the trains go by when things are slow.
