Over in the B-Zone of Durgapur, our office is located at 8/17, J.M. Sengupta Road. It’s a fairly well-known spot in the neighborhood. The road itself can be a bit bumpy, but it gets plenty of traffic because of the nearby residential quarters. We work in a building that’s seen its fair share of monsoon seasons. Inside, the rooms are filled with metal cabinets and stacks of papers. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows where everything is, even if it looks a bit messy to an outsider. We manage a lot of the local coordination for the steel authority here. It’s not a job for someone who wants excitement; it’s about being consistent and getting the details right. Most of the guys here have been with the company for twenty or thirty years. We’ve seen kids in the neighborhood grow up and get jobs of their own. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps during a break to catch some fresh air, though the air in an industrial town is never quite that fresh. We don't have any slogans or big goals written on the walls. We just have a list of things to do for the day. That’s enough for us. We keep our heads down and do the work, making sure we represent the 713205 area as best we can. It is a simple existence, but it matters to the people around here.
