Purbasthali Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited is located right at Plot No-497 in the village of Golahat. If you’re heading towards Chakbamangaria in Bardhaman, you’ll likely pass near us. This part of West Bengal is famous for its farming, and we’re just a small part of that tradition. Our office is a simple building on the plot. It’s not much to look at, but it’s where all the planning happens. Bardhaman has some of the best soil you can find, and we’re trying to use it without ruining it with chemicals. We are a group of local farmers who wanted to work together instead of everyone just doing their own thing. It makes the logistics of selling and buying much easier. During the day, the place is usually buzzing with people coming in from the nearby fields to report on their progress or pick up supplies. We have a lot of sacks of grain and organic compost piled up in the corner. It smells like earth and hard work in here. The village life is quiet, but we keep busy. We don't have any fancy mission statements or corporate goals written on the walls. We just have a calendar and a list of things that need to be planted or harvested. My nephew helps with the computer work, but most of us prefer being outside. It’s a tough life sometimes, especially when the weather doesn't cooperate, but we’ve been doing this for years at Golahat.
