Maa Lakshmi Husking Mill

We’ve been running the Maa Lakshmi Husking Mill for quite some time now over in Uttar Goyara village. If you’re coming from Nibhuji Bazar, it’s not too far of a trip. We are situated right in the heart of the Kalna area in Burdwan. This part of the country is famous for its rice, so there is always plenty of work for us to do. My family handles most of the day-to-day things here. It isn’t a fancy setup with bright lights or a big office. It’s mostly just the big machines and the sound of the husking going on from morning until the sun goes down. The air is usually thick with the smell of dry paddy and dust, which is just part of the job. We get a lot of local farmers bringing their harvest to us in bullock carts or small tractors. We know most of the people around here by name. Sometimes the electricity acts up and we have to wait around, but that’s just life in the village. We don't really bother with big advertisements or anything like that. People know where we are if they need their rice processed. We just keep our ledgers by hand and focus on getting the sacks filled. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and sweating, but it is honest work that keeps us busy throughout the year. We are just part of the local landscape here.
