Jatindra Mohan Rice Mill

Jatindra Mohan Rice Mill is at No.2, Ramna Bagan. We are situated near the Boys School. It’s a fairly quiet area until the school lets out or the mill starts up. The building has been here for years. You can see the wear on the walls. We do things the old-fashioned way mostly. There’s a lot of shoveling and moving stuff by hand. Ramna Bagan is a nice part of town, but we’re focused on the rice. The noise of the machinery is something you get used to after a week. We have a few workers who have been with us for a long time. They know the sounds of the mill better than anyone. The proximity to the Boys School means we have to be careful with the trucks during certain hours. We don't want any accidents. The address is easy to remember. Inside the mill, it smells like toasted grain and a bit of grease. We keep the ledgers in the back room. It’s dusty in there too. We don't put on any acts. If you come by, you’ll see us in our work clothes, probably covered in something. We just process the grain and get it ready for the market. It’s a steady rhythm. Some days are longer than others, especially when a machine acts up. That’s life at Jatindra Mohan Rice Mill. We don't change much around here, we just keep the mill running as best as we can every day.
