Jagadhatri Rice Mill

You can find us, Jagadhatri Rice Mill, out in Village Machkanda. We are near the Bankura More in the Burdwan area. This mill has been part of the landscape here for a while. It is a bit of a drive out here, but we like being close to the fields. The work is mostly about timing. When the harvest comes in, we are busy around the clock and the yard gets full of vehicles waiting to unload. It is a lot of heavy lifting and moving bags from one side of the shed to the other. We have some old machinery that needs a bit of extra care to keep it running smooth, but it gets the job done. The floor is usually covered in husks by noon. We don't have a fancy reception area or anyone to answer the phones with a script. Usually, whoever is closest to the desk just picks it up. It gets very hot in the summer months under the tin roof, so we drink a lot of water and take breaks in the shade when we can. We are just a group of local workers who know the rice business inside and out. We don't use big words or try to act like we are bigger than we are. We just take the grain, process it, and send it back out to the markets. It’s a simple life, but it is what we know how to do.
