Out here in Sagarbhanga, Gopinathpur, the environment is very different from the big city offices. We are located in Durgapur, and the industrial feel of the Burdwan district is all around us. The office itself is functional and focuses on the work we need to do on the ground. We start early in the morning before it gets too hot. The local tea stall nearby is where most of us get our morning start. Inside the building, things are kept simple. We have our records, our computers, and a few chairs for visitors who might drop by. It’s not the kind of place where people wear fancy suits. We wear what is practical for the work and the weather. Sometimes the rains in this part of West Bengal can make the roads a bit muddy, but we manage to get through. We handle the logistics and the day-to-day requirements without much fuss. It is a steady kind of life in Gopinathpur. We just try to stay efficient and make sure the paperwork is sorted correctly before the day ends. It’s honest work and we’ve become a part of the local landscape over the many years.
