We have been here in Paraj Burdwan for quite a while now. Most people know the way to Shillyaghat Paraj, it's not too far once you get off the main path. The mill is usually a bit loud during the day because the machines are old and they make a lot of noise while they work. We don't mind it much though. It is just the sound of things getting done. My father used to say that a quiet mill is a sad one. We spend most of our mornings checking the grain and making sure the bags are stacked right. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere, even on the tea cups in the office, but that is just how it is with rice. Our spot in Villp.O-Paraj is where we spend most of our lives, really. We see the same people every day coming through. Some of the guys have worked here since they were young. We don't have fancy computers or anything like that. We just use what we have and try to get through the work before the sun goes down too far. The weather in Burdwan can get really hot, especially in the afternoons when the roof heats up. We just keep the fans going and carry on. It's not a big glamorous thing, just Astha Rice Mill Pvt.Ltd doing what we do every season.
