Vijaya Marbels

Our yard, Vijaya Marbels, is situated at Kalewadi Phata, right on the Aundh Road near Aundh Camp. It’s a very busy stretch of road, so there is always a lot of dust and noise from the passing vehicles. We have a large open area where we keep different slabs of marble and stone leaning against heavy frames. Most of our day is spent outdoors, moving these heavy pieces with the help of a few workers. We use a lot of water to keep the stones clean and to cool the blades when we have to do some cutting. The ground is usually wet and a bit muddy because of this. We don’t have a polished office; it’s just a small cabin with a table and a couple of chairs. People come in to look at the patterns of the stone. We spend time walking them through the yard, showing the different blocks we have in stock. It’s a physical job and our hands are usually rough from handling the stone. Sometimes we have a lot of trucks arriving at once, which makes the yard a bit crowded. We’ve been at this location for a while, and the neighborhood has grown a lot around us. We just keep doing our thing, day in and day out, making sure the stone is ready for whoever needs it. It’s a basic, honest way to earn a living. We have to be careful with the heavy slabs, as they are quite fragile until they are installed. The sun can be quite harsh out in the open yard.
