Running an earthmoving business out of a flat in Pune is a bit of a juggle. We are located in Ketki Sadan Society over in Lokmanya Nagar. Mr. Deshmukh handles a lot of the coordination from here. It's Flat No. 1, so it’s easy to find on the ground floor. Most of the time, the big machines are out at various sites around the city but the paperwork stays here on the dining table or in the small office nook. You’ll hear the neighbors’ kids playing outside in the afternoon while we are trying to fix schedules for the loaders and excavators. It’s a bit cramped with all the logbooks and spare parts we sometimes keep in the corner. We get calls at odd hours about site delays or breakages. Pune traffic makes moving the equipment a total headache so we spend half our day just planning the routes. Sometimes the tea runs out and someone has to run down the street to the stall. It’s a family-run sort of feeling even if we’re dealing with heavy steel and dirt all day. We don't have a big fancy showroom. If you come by, you’ll probably find us looking at maps or arguing about which machine needs a service next. It’s just how it goes here. The society is quiet enough but our phone doesn't stop ringing once the sun comes up. We just keep things moving one day at a time without much fuss.
