Saras Udyog

If you come down to Chinchwad, you’ll find us easily enough. Saras Udyog is basically a workshop floor with a small cabin for the accounts. It’s a loud place most of the time because of the machinery running. The floor is stained with oil and marks from where we move the heavy equipment around. We don't have a lot of decorations on the walls, just some old safety posters and a clock that’s five minutes fast. I’ve worked here for a long time, and the smell of grease is just part of the air now. We get a lot of heat in the summer, so we keep the big side doors open. Birds sometimes fly in and nest in the rafters, which is a bit of a nuisance but we leave them be. There’s a stack of pallets in the corner where we sit during breaks. The work is physical and tiring, but it’s honest. We don’t have a marketing team or a website that looks like a magazine. It’s just us making things and loading them onto the trucks. Sometimes the orders are late because a machine breaks down, and we spend half the night fixing it. That’s just part of the job. Most of our tools are old but they are reliable. We know the quirks of every piece of equipment in the building. It’s a steady life here in the industrial zone. The tea break at four is usually the best part of the afternoon when we can finally hear ourselves think.
