We are situated at Survey No 342/1 in Ambadvet, right across from the Mahindra Conveyor Systems plant. It’s a bit of a trek out here to Mulashi, but it’s where we have our space. The building isn't anything special to look at. Inside, you’ll find mostly the smell of rubber and the sound of presses. We spend the morning unloading raw materials and the afternoon getting the soles attached to the uppers. It is a lot of standing on your feet, which is funny since we make shoes. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend a couple of hours fixing a belt or a motor. The road outside gets quite dusty when the big trucks go by. We have a small break room where we keep the water cooler. It is pretty quiet out this way compared to the city center, except for when the shift changes at the Mahindra place across the road. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy letters. We just have the workers and the production line. Most of the guys have been living in the village nearby for their whole lives. We make sure the footwear is sturdy enough for the local markets. It’s practical work. We keep the inventory stacked in the back corner until the transport arrives to take it away. It’s just how we run things here in Ambadvet. It is a basic setup but it works for us.
