Padma Marbles

Our shop, Padma Marbles, is tucked away in Ambaygaon, right near that big Tata Showroom on the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway. If you’re coming through Katraj, you know how busy that stretch of road gets. It’s constant noise from the trucks and cars zooming by. We’ve got our yard at 34/16, and it’s filled with slabs of marble and stone. It’s a heavy job, moving these things around all day. Most of us have some aches and pains from the lifting. We don’t have a shiny corporate office. Instead, there’s a small desk where we keep the ledgers and a couple of chairs for when someone wants to sit and talk about their house project. The ground is almost always covered in a thin layer of white dust from the stone cutting. It gets on your shoes and clothes, but we don’t mind it much anymore. We just help people figure out what kind of stone might look okay in their kitchens or bathrooms. We aren't trying to sell anyone the most expensive thing on the lot. We just show what we have in stock and let them decide. It’s a lot of manual labor and honest talk. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to work outside, but we manage. Being right there on the highway makes it easy for the delivery trucks to pull in, which is good because these stones are too heavy to move any other way.
