About Neha Muthiyan Kathak Class – Art & Craft in Pune
At Navi Peth 4, we have Neha Muthiyan Kathak Class. It is a space where the sound of ghungroos is quite common. I’ve been running these classes for a while now, and Navi Peth is a great neighborhood for it. It’s got that old-city feel that seems to fit with classical dance. The room we use isn't huge, but it has enough space for the students to move around and practice their footwork. We spend a lot of time on the basics, just repeating the steps over and over until they feel right. It’s not like those big dance studios you see on TV; it’s more of a local, community thing. Neha Muthiyan Kathak Class is really just about the dance itself. I usually open up in the late afternoon when the kids are done with school and the adults are finished with work. Sometimes the floor gets a bit scuffed up, but that’s just a sign that people are practicing hard. Navi Peth 4 is a busy little area, so there’s always something going on outside our windows. I try to keep the atmosphere relaxed so nobody feels too pressured. Learning Kathak takes years of patience, and we just take it one day at a time here. It’s a lot of hard work, but when a student finally gets a rhythm down, it’s a good feeling. We’ve been here at Navi Peth for quite some time, just teaching and practicing every single week without fail.
