M M Education Society

M M Education Society is based at Katraj Veer Jijamata Nagar Worli 36/3. It is an older building in a part of Mumbai that has seen a lot of changes over the years. The office is on a higher floor, and the elevator works most of the time, but I usually take the stairs anyway. Inside, it is mostly just metal filing cabinets and wooden desks piled high with folders. We have a few windows that let in the breeze from the sea, which is nice during the humid months. The sound of traffic from the Worli Sea Link is always there in the background. We are a small group of people working here, mostly just doing the administrative stuff that needs to be done. We do not have a fancy reception area. If someone comes in, they just walk up to whichever desk is open. We drink a lot of tea and spend a lot of time on the phone talking to different people. Sometimes the ceiling leaks a little when it rains really hard during the monsoon, so we have to move the papers around to keep them dry. It is a very lived-in space. There are photos of past events pinned to a corkboard by the door, and the edges are all curled up. We do not try to be anything we are not. It is just a place where we get our work done and try to help out where we can. The wood of the desks is old and scratched, but it works fine.
