You’ll find us out by the highway, NH-4, near Chahur in the Khed area. Laxmi Granite And Marbles is basically a big yard full of heavy stone slabs. It’s not the cleanest place to work because of all the stone dust, but that’s just how it is with granite and marble. We spend most of the day outside or under the tin shed when the sun gets too hot. My hands are always rough from handling the samples, and there’s always a truck backing in or pulling out. We started this because there was a need for stone in the Pune City area, and being near the highway makes it easier for the big lorries to reach us. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. We have a small cabin that serves as the office where we keep the ledger and the phone. It’s nothing fancy, just a place to sit for a minute and have some water. Customers come by to look at the patterns in the marble, and we spend a lot of time moving slabs around so they can see the one at the bottom of the pile. It’s hard work, and by the time evening rolls around, everyone is pretty tired. We don’t do much advertising; word of mouth from builders and neighbors is how we keep going. The Satara weather can be unpredictable, but the work doesn't stop. We're just regular people selling stone to folks building their homes and businesses. It's simple work but it keeps us busy.
