Kathak Dance Class

Kathak Dance Class is situated in the Sahyog Society over in Deccan Gymkhana. It’s a quiet corner where we spend most of our afternoons and evenings. The floor is the most important part of the room, and we make sure it’s kept clean for the dancers. You won't find any flashy mirrors or high-tech sound systems here. Just a simple space with enough room to move and practice the steps. The rhythm of the ghungroos is the main sound you’ll hear if you walk by. We started this because we wanted a place to share the dance in a simple way. Deccan Gymkhana is a nice area with a lot of families, so we get people of all ages coming in. Some are just starting out and tripping over their feet, while others have been coming for years. We don’t have a big front desk or a secretary. Usually, we are just in the middle of a session when someone knocks. The Sahyog Society has been a good home for us. It’s peaceful enough to focus on the beats and the movements. We don't follow a corporate schedule; we just dance until the lesson is over. It’s a very hands-on way to run things, and we wouldn't want it any other way. We focus on the tradition and the learning process without any extra distractions around the room.
