Our workshop is located at Kalachandra, which is tucked away behind the Vitthal Mandir in Akurdi. It is a quiet enough spot once you get away from the main traffic. We spend our days working on generators. Because we deal with gensets, there is usually some oil on the floor and heavy engines sitting around in various stages of being fixed. It gets pretty noisy when we are testing a machine, but the people nearby are used to the sound by now. We have been in Akurdi for a long time. The guys here really know their way around an engine. We mostly focus on routine maintenance and fixing things that have stopped working. It is not exactly glamorous work, but it is what we are good at. We do not have a fancy waiting room or anything like that. If you need us, you just come through the gate and find one of us in the back. We keep things simple and try to get the machines running again without making a big deal out of it. Most of our talking happens over tea at the stall down the road. It is a straightforward way to run a business. We just show up, do the repairs, and make sure the work is solid before we head home for the day.
