Jehangir Hospital

Our place is at 32 Sasoow Road. Jehangir Hospital has been standing here for quite a while now. It’s a big concrete building that doesn't look like much from the outside, but it’s full of activity twenty-four hours a day. We have the emergency entrance on one side where the ambulances come in with their lights flashing, though they usually turn the sirens off before they get too close. Inside, the lights are those bright fluorescent tubes that hum a little bit if you listen closely. We have a small garden area in the middle, but it’s mostly just some grass and a few tired-looking bushes. Patients sometimes go there to get a bit of fresh air if the doctors say it’s okay. The elevators are old and slow, and they make a clunking sound when they stop at a floor. Most of the staff prefers to use the back stairs because it’s faster. We go through a lot of coffee and tea every day just to keep going. The furniture in the waiting rooms has seen better days, with some of the vinyl cracking on the edges. We aren't trying to be a five-star hotel; we’re a hospital. We take in people who are sick and try to get them better so they can go home. It’s straightforward work, and we’ve been doing it at this same spot on Sasoow Road for a long time.
