Jai Jagdamba Mutton Shop

Our shop is located in Gultekdi, right on Raja Ram Mohan Roy Marg. We are in Shop Number 4 of the Purandar Sahakar Society. It’s a straightforward mutton shop. We don’t have any fancy displays or marketing signs in the window. It’s just the meat, the heavy chopping blocks, and the hooks on the wall. I get here very early in the morning, long before most people are even awake, to get everything ready for the day's business. The floors have to be washed constantly and the knives always need sharpening. It’s hard work on the back and shoulders, standing there all day. Sunday is our busiest time by far. There’s usually a long line of people from the society and the surrounding streets waiting for their turn. They all want specific cuts for their family meals, and I try my best to give them what they ask for. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to worry about the fridge, which is a real headache when you have stock. My clothes usually don't stay clean for long, but that’s the nature of this job. We’ve been in this same spot for years, and I’ve seen the kids in the neighborhood grow up and start coming in to buy meat for their own families. It’s a practical business for us. We don't talk much, just focus on the work and making sure the meat is fresh. It’s a local shop for local people.
