Heena Chicken Centre

Heena Chicken Centre is right here in Uttam Nagar. We’ve been at this same spot for a while now. It’s a small place, nothing too special to look at from the outside. Every morning starts with the same routine of getting the fresh stock in and setting up the stalls. It can get pretty slippery on the floor, so we’re always throwing water around to keep it clean. People from around the neighborhood stop by, usually in a hurry. We don’t talk much, just get the orders done. Some days are better than others. When it rains, the street gets muddy and things slow down. We just sit on the stools and wait. The scale we use is old but it works fine. My brother helps me out on the weekends when it gets busy. We don’t have a fancy website. If someone needs chicken, they just walk in. We know what the locals want and we keep it ready. It’s hard work, standing on your feet all day, but it’s what we do. Uttam Nagar has a lot of shops like ours, but we’ve got our regulars who have been coming since we started. We don't really think about growing big or anything. We just want to get through the day and make sure the shop is locked up right at night. It’s a straightforward business. The roof leaks a little bit when the monsoon is heavy, so we have to move the cutting table to the other side. It’s a bit of a hassle but we manage. There's a stray dog that hangs around the entrance waiting for scraps. We don't have air conditioning, just the open front.
