Our dance space is located at Kasba Peth Raopura 261. It is an old building but it has plenty of room for the students to move around. You can usually hear the sound of the ghungroos or the music from down the street when a class is going on. We have been teaching here for years, and the floors have seen a lot of feet stepping across them. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we keep the windows open to catch whatever breeze comes through the narrow lanes of Kasba Peth. The students come in after school or work, and the whole place fills up with energy. We don’t have any big flashy signs, just the work we do inside. Sometimes the younger kids are a bit distracted and we have to tell them to focus on their steps again. It is a lot of repetition, doing the same movements over and over until they look right. We keep some old chairs against the wall for parents to sit and wait. The walls have a few photos of past performances, but they are getting a bit faded now. It is just a local spot where people come to learn something traditional. We know most of the families around here since their kids have been coming to us for a long time. It feels more like a community than just a place of business. Every evening when we lock up, the street is finally quiet.
