Ambika Marble

We are out in Bhosarigoan in the Sadguru Nagar area, right along the Pune Nashik Road. Ambika Marble is a large yard filled with big slabs of stone and piles of marble tiles. Working with stone is a very heavy and messy job. There is always a fine white dust covering the floor and the machines. The Pune Nashik Road is a major highway so the sound of the traffic is constant and very loud. We have a big crane to help us move the heavy marble blocks around because they are way too heavy for us to lift by hand. We spend our days showing different types of stone to contractors and people building their new houses. The weather affects us a lot because most of our work is done in the open yard under the sky. When it’s sunny the glare off the white marble is almost blinding and very hot. When it rains the whole place turns into a muddy mess and we have to be careful not to slip. We have a small cabin where we keep the paperwork but most of the time we are outside with the stone slabs. It is hard work on the legs standing on the hard ground all day long. We just try to get the orders loaded onto the trucks without cracking any of the edges. It is a straightforward business of moving stone. It’s a long day and we are always tired.
