Ambica Marble

We are based over in Bhosari, which is a busy area for all kinds of industrial and construction stuff. Our yard is filled with stacks of marble slabs in all sorts of sizes and shades. It’s not the cleanest place because there is always some dust or mud around, especially when it rains and the trucks are coming in and out. We spend our days moving these heavy pieces around with the crane or just by hand when they are smaller. The marble comes in rough sometimes, and we have to spend time checking each piece for any deep cracks or stains that shouldn’t be there. It’s heavy, cold work, especially in the early mornings. We have a small office shed where we keep the records and where we sit to have our tea. People come here looking for stone for their floors or kitchens, and we show them what we have piled up in the back. It’s a lot of walking around the yard and pointing out the different grains in the stone. We don’t have a fancy showroom with lights; you just see the marble as it is, stacked up under the sun. The noise from the nearby factories is always there, but you get used to it after a while. We just focus on getting the right pieces loaded onto the tempos without any breakage. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till night. We’ve been here for a long time.
