THE METAL WARE HOUSE

We are located at 164 on Jawaharlal Nehru Street. The Metal Ware House is basically a big open space filled with stacks of steel, aluminum, and copper. It’s a very loud place most of the time because we are always moving heavy sheets around or cutting things to size. The floor is made of thick concrete and it’s covered in scratches from the metal. We don’t have any air conditioning, so it gets really hot in the middle of the day, but we just keep the big doors open. It’s a bit of a dusty environment with all the metal shavings, so we wear old clothes that we don’t mind getting dirty. There is a small desk in the corner where we keep the ledger and handle the money, but we aren't there very often. Most of our time is spent out on the floor with the materials. People from the neighborhood come by when they need a piece of metal for a gate or a small repair. We don't have a fancy sign, just the number 164 painted on the front. It’s hard work and it makes our hands rough, but it’s what we do. Sometimes we lose a pen or a measuring tape in the piles, and it takes us forever to find it. We’ve been on this street for years and like the busy feel of the area. It’s just a straightforward warehouse.
