Sri Sivam Pottery

Sri Sivam Pottery is situated in Alankuppam, which is near Trumbai and the Auroville area. It is a much slower pace of life out here compared to the big cities. We work with clay mostly, so things are always a bit muddy or dusty. The studio is more of an open shed than a proper building. We like it that way because of the breeze. We have our wheels and our kilns set up where they have been for years. It is a family-run kind of thing, and we just do the work that needs doing. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry the pots, so we have to wait on the sun. We do not follow a strict corporate schedule. We work when the clay is ready and when the orders come in. Auroville is nearby, so we get a mix of local people and visitors from all over the place stopping by to see what we are making. The road to get here can be a bit bumpy depending on the season. We do not have a big showroom. We just put the finished pieces on wooden planks or on the ground so people can look at them. It is simple, honest work that uses the local soil. We enjoy the quiet and the chance to make something with our hands every single day. It is not a glamorous job, but it is ours and it keeps the kitchen fire burning.
