Arun Cement Ageney

Out here in Bhagatpur, Pratapgarh, we run the Arun Cement Ageney. It’s a pretty basic operation. We have a yard where the trucks pull in and a small office where we keep the books. Most of the day is spent dealing with bags of cement and talking to builders who need supplies for their sites. It’s a dusty job, there is no way around that. The white dust gets on everything, including our clothes and the old desk in the corner. We don't have a fancy showroom. If you want to see the cement, it's out there in the stacks under the tin roof. We've been in Bhagatpur for a long time and everyone around here knows where to find us. We don't go in for big advertisements or sales pitches. People just know we have the stock and they come by when they are ready to build something new. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially when it rains and we have to make sure everything stays dry. We use a lot of local guys to help with the loading and unloading. It’s heavy work but it’s honest work. We open up early and usually stay until the last truck is gone for the day. It’s just how things work in this part of Pratapgarh. We don't need much more than a working phone and a good pair of boots to get through.
