Dasavuja Flour Mill

Dasavuja Flour Mill is situated near Akposturam in Ongole. It is a small operation. People in the neighborhood come here to grind their grain. We have a few different stones for wheat and some for spices like chillies and turmeric. The smell of ground spices is very strong here. It makes you sneeze if you aren't used to it. Ongole can be a very dry and dusty town so adding a flour mill to that just makes it messier. We don't have a polished storefront. It is just a shutter that we open early in the morning. People bring their small containers and wait while the machine turns. The motor has a specific hum that tells me if it is working right or not. Sometimes the belts slip and I have to fix them with some grease. My clothes are always white from the flour by midday. We don't do any advertising. Word of mouth in Akposturam is enough for us. The kids from the street sometimes peak in to see the machines spinning. It is a simple life and the work is repetitive but it is honest. We charge a fair price per kilo and that is about it. No big plans for the future, just keeping the stones turning. It is noisy and hot but it is what we know how to do best. I keep a spare set of belts in the back just in case something breaks down during the busy morning hours.
