If you ever head out to Ratdi, near Porbandar, you might run into us. We’re based in the Vadivistar area. Shiv Acqua Culture is pretty much a one-person operation, though I get help when I need it. Being out here in Porbandar means we are right by the coast, which is the only place this kind of work really happens. The wind can get incredibly strong coming off the sea, and almost everything in the office usually has a thin layer of salt on it. This isn't a city job by any stretch. I spend most of my time outdoors, walking the banks of the ponds and making sure the water looks right. It’s very quiet out here in Ratdi compared to the noise of the town. We don’t have any big signs or bright lights to show where we are. Most people who need to find me already know the way. The work is physically hard. You’re always on your feet, and you’re always watching the sky for any sign of a storm that could mess up the tanks. I don't have a staff to do the hard parts, so if a pipe leaks or a net gets a hole in it, I’m the one out there fixing it. It’s a very hands-on way to live. There’s a certain feeling of satisfaction in seeing the shrimp grow after all the work. We don't have any brochures. The work speaks for itself.
