We are down here on the ground floor at number thirty-seven in Pudu Nagar. The IV Cross is usually a bit busy in the mornings with people heading to work or taking their kids to school. We spend a lot of our time just moving heavy sacks of spices around. It is not a fancy place or anything like that. The walls are a plain color and we have a couple of old fans that make a clicking noise when they are turned on high. You can usually smell the coriander and the red chili from the street before you even see our door. We do not have a big staff here, just a few of us who have lived around Reddiarpalayam for a long time. Some days the humidity makes the spice powders clump up, so we have to be really careful about how we store everything in the back room. We use simple plastic bags and glass jars for most of the stuff. It is just honest work that keeps us busy from nine until six every evening. Sometimes neighbors drop by just to chat for a minute while we are busy weighing out orders. We do not do a lot of talking about what we do or how we do it, we just get on with the grinding and the packing. The floor gets a bit dusty with all the fine powder, so we end up sweeping three or four times a day just to keep it decent. It is just a local spot.
