About Shree Gayatri Murti Shilp Kala Kendra – Gifts in Pindwara
We are over here at Bhawari Chouraya in Sarupganj. My family has been working on this Tehsil Road spot for a long while now. It’s mostly stone work and making murtis for the local temples and homes. You’ll see us out there most mornings with the chisels and hammers before it gets too hot. It is a dusty job, and there is always white powder on the floor and our clothes. We handle the big blocks of stone that come in on the trucks. Sometimes a piece takes weeks just to get the shape right, especially the faces. People come by to check on their orders and we sit and talk about how they want the details to look. It isn't a fancy showroom or anything like that. Just a workshop where we get things done. We usually have a few pieces sitting out front so people can see what we've been up to lately. Sometimes the power goes out and we just work by hand until it comes back. It's quiet work mostly. My nephew helps with the heavy lifting now. We just try to make things that look right and will last a long time in someone’s house. Most of our neighbors know where we are. If you’re driving down Tehsil Road, you can’t really miss the sound of the hammers. It’s a lot of physical labor but it keeps us busy and we like the results at the end of the day.
