Our place is located on the New By Pass Main Road, just by the Jaganpura post office here in Patna. Sitting right on the bypass means trucks and buses are constantly rumbling past the front door. You get used to the vibration and the noise after a few weeks, but it’s definitely not a quiet spot. The building is fairly large because it houses both the hospital and the research institute, though we’ve filled up almost every square inch with desks and medical equipment. Dust from the main road is a constant battle, so there is usually someone with a broom near the entrance. In the summer, Patna gets incredibly hot, and the waiting area can feel a bit crowded when the fans are running full speed. We have some simple plastic chairs for the patients. The research wing is tucked away in the back, where the sounds of the traffic are a little more muffled. Paperwork is a big part of the day, and our desks are always covered in folders and charts. Having the post office right next door makes it easy to handle all the mail we send out. Sometimes the water pressure in the old pipes acts up, but we've learned to deal with it. We get people coming in from all parts of the city because the location is so easy to find on the main road. It's a busy, functional building where everyone is just trying to get their work done every day.
