Jain Store is sitting right in the middle of Machuatoli, Patna, specifically in the Langartoli area. It’s a very old part of the city, and the streets are narrow and always full of people. We’ve been operating out of this small space for a long time, and it feels like the walls have seen a lot. Mostly we deal with students from the nearby hostels and families who have lived here for generations. It gets very crowded in the evenings, and sometimes it’s hard to even move inside the shop because of all the boxes of goods we have to keep. Patna’s weather is either too dusty or too muddy, and we just deal with it as it comes. I spend most of my day sitting on the wooden bench, waiting for the next customer. We don't have a big staff, just us doing the daily work of weighing out items and packing them. The neighborhood is noisy with the sound of cycles and people talking loudly, but that’s just Patna for you. We try to keep things that people need for their daily cooking and cleaning. It’s nothing fancy, just a plain store with honest prices for everyone. People know they can come to us for their regular stuff without any fuss or trouble. It's just how we've always done things here in Machuatoli and we don't see any reason to change it now.
